What did the ILS and VARK instruments tell you about your learning preference/learning style? In what specific ways will you use this information to "leverage" your success in your current and future classes?
ILS and VARK made me realize taht I work better when I see things and when things are demonstrated for me. I do not do well with lectures and I can't learn by just listening to someone speak. This is something I have already realized in highschool and am not struggling with in college because of my science lecture. I am going to use this to my leverage by knowing that I don't learn well in lecture I am going to have to try harder in lecture than I usually would and I will have to pay extra attention.
After finding that my learning skills are right down the line I realized that I can adapt to most of the different styles my teachers will have. I can take the lectures and make them into. I know that personally I have different preferences about how I learn and different things that I always do no matter what but I guess by doing these out of class I have been able to adapt to all learning and teaching types. Since I am well balance straight across the board I am going to continue what I have been doing, however I am going to try out a different way of studying and instead of using 9125723124 flash cards I am going to try to study by making a guide and see if I can learn that way as well.
The ILS and VARK instruments we used the other day didn't tell me much about my learing style. It pretty much told me that I was in the middle on all learning preferences. This means that I am able to adapt to different situations. In different classrooms I will be able to pick up the teachers style of teaching and do well with it. I work well with visual aides and with written descriptions. I can use this information in future classes by knowing that I will adapt and just try to go with the flow and not fight the way a teacher is presenting information.
The ILS and VARK instruments told me basically what I already knew about my learning styles. I am mostly an auditory learner, meaning I learn things by hearing them. This is good for me, because it means my learning style matches with basically every teacher. In the rare case my style of learning does not match with the teacher, I can always do things like read my notes, or the book readings out loud.
The ILS and VARK surveys showed me that I am more of a visual learner rather than grasping a concept by verbal descriptions. I've always basically known that I work better when I see an action played out before me rather than me guessing what to do from no example. I'm not really certain how I can use this information to "leverage" my future success, but I suppose I can look for charts and diagrams of certain tasks asked of me to help me along with whatever project or problem I'm working on.
Both the Vark and the ILS showed me that I like it when teachers use visual things to teach and I like it when things are in sequential order. I will use this informaion by trying to work harder when things are not in order and if the lecture is verbal only.
On the VARK questionaire, i scored most on Visual and Kinesthetic, therefore i prefer to do things more hands on and see things visually. On the ILS one, all of my X's were on the left side, saying that I also like to see things visually and do more hands on things, which is a pretty significant trend. I'll probably try and study more things by seeing them or doing some kind of example that puts it into a better perspective for me to understand. Maybe i'll make some kind of demanstration and or draw something up so I can visualize it and do it myself.
I think that the ILS and VARK instruments were very accurate about my learning style. I tend to learn better when I get handouts to read or I am specificly told what to do or how to do something. I am not able to learn much when I am presented with graphs, charts, or basically anything that has to do with visual learning. I will use this information to "leverage" my success in my current and my future classes by utilizing my learning styles more and trying to stay away from visual learning. I know that I will learn better when professors teach verbally and give several handouts for the class to read.
The ILS and VARK instruments let me in on very interesting insight on my learning styles. The preference in the results reflected exactly how I learn best, and even why sometimes I do not learn best. I learned that I am good with description, hear and speaking words with discussion and actively participating in class. I also learned that I am a balanced out mix of many learning styles that can really help me during college. These questions really made me think of the student I am and how my dynamics in my academic career works. Now that I know this information, and possible solutions and tactics, I will be keeping them in mind and putting them into play with my classes and the professors I come into contact with over the years.
ILS and VARK showed me that I learn better in the style of reading and writing. I can use this to help me in future classes by keeping this in mind. I know that I will be able to obtain more information if its put right blank in front of me instead just explained or shown to me. Being lectured is a lot harder for me to obtain all the information. If i can read the text and see it right in front of me it makes it easier for me to understand. I think to get over this i can use my learning style and read the text before lecture that way when they go over subjects it will be a review for me and I can build more on what I read.
The ILS and VARK surveys made me realize that I am a visual learner. I learn and comprehend things better when there is a picture in the back of my mind. When I listen to lectures and people just talking while I'm trying to learn it does not work. I need to physically be doing something, or seeing a picture. In lectures I have to re-write my notes so they stay in the back on my mind. My hand is acutally moving while im re-reading my notes. I learned that in order to do better with my school work, and to develop better studying techniques I have to do things physically, and also visually see them. Also, when I am about to learn something new I should figure out a way I could see a picture in my head and create a way that I can learn successfully.
The ILS and VARK instruments told me that I am mostly in the middle of the learning preference; although, I lean more to the active learner side. It told me that I am more of a visual learner and that I like to do hands on work. I am able to work alone or in a group and I look for facts rather than meaning. In the areas of visual and verbal and sequential and global I am fairly well balanced. I have a moderate preference to sensory and active learning. This means that I am able to see either the big picture or put the details together to see the big picture. I am also able to learn by words or visual aids. For the future I could look for teachers with the learning styles that fit me best, but overall I think that I will be fine since I am generally in the middle of the learning styles.
The ILS and VARK intruments told me about my learning preference/learning style by showing me that I am more of a image person. I like to learn thing by image and not by notes. I have an easier time seeing things than hearing them. I will use the information that I got from ILS and VARK to "leverage" my success in my current and future classes to tery to use more imagery so I could understand the material quicker.
The learning questionnaires taught me nothing new about myself. I already knew that I was a visual learner. I also already knew that I preferred classes that focussed on theory over casses that are focused on facts. However, these tests did confirm what I already knew, making it obvious to me that I should continue down the path I am on. I specialize in writing, which allows me to be creative and theoretical. Continuing down this path will allow me to take advantage of my strengths.
I dont think the VARK and ILS actually helped me very much. This is not because i disredit the accuracy or helpfulness of the tests. In order for me to make significant change in my learning style or in my personal life, i need to expierence the positive stimulus myself. I have never been one to change something about myself just by hearing about how it can be an improvement. I need to experience the factor in my life in order to understand how it can fit in. Otherwise it is too anecdotal and not circumstantial enough. Although, i do find information regarding my learning style helpful. This is because it provides complementary insight and knowledge of myself. This knowledge i cannot use directly to change myself, although it can be very helpful in my everyday life. When a circumstance does come around where my learning style is challenged i can use this information to help reshape my approach towards learning. In this respect, i know the VARK and ILS will be very helpful to me.
I learned from the ILS and VARK instruments that I’m capable of learning in different stetting. I feel more like a can find my way through college work as long as I focus on what is going on in class. It shows me that as long as I put mu mind to it I can do the work. But it also helps to me know what is the strongest way to learn something. So that if I can’t figure out something I can suggest to the teacher a way to help me if I can’t figure out the work. And hopefully by telling the teacher this they can help me find the best way to understand what the work is that I am supposed to do.
